Distinguished Hudson Valley soloists Adanya Dunn, Kelly Newberry, Corey Dalton Hart, and Andrew Robert Munn will join pianist Wei Zhou to present Over There! Songs of War & Peace, a recital of American music on Veterans Day Wednesday, November 11th, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.
These singers are currently in their final year of their master degrees in the Bard Conservatory Graduate Vocal Arts Program headed by world-renowned operatic soprano Dawn Upshaw.
THE MUSIC
This recital will explore past and present depictions of war in the United States and how it affects the healing process of individuals and the nation as a whole. A diverse collection of American songs by Charles Ives, Ned Rorem, Lori Laitman, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, William Bolcom, John Corigliano among others, will shape a journey of the development of global conflict from difficult goodbyes, drums of battle, thoughts of home, loss, reflection, and finally, peace.
Over There! is an event of socially engaged artistry in which the music will make a space for audiences to reflect upon their relationship to conflict, war, and peace, and imagine a truly harmonious society. In addition to the musical voices of Dunn, Newberry, Hart, and Munn the event will lift up the voices of experienced peace builders, healing professionals, and veterans.
